THE FAMILY THAT RACES TOGETHER, WINS TOGETHER

Some say champions are born. If that's so, then the Stott family just might be royalty. Mitch brought home the ultimate Ironman in 2004 and became the first Pro Modified to run under 6 seconds in the quarter mile. This year brother Quain (above) won his first championship in an IHRA Pro Mod.

While Quain was battling out a fierce season-ending chase, cousin Emily Stott (left) found herself in an even tougher battle for the Division 9 Super Stock Championship. Emily brought her 1969 Camaro from three places back in the final race to take her first championship. "I needed a little help in that last race," Emily explained of her seven-point margin of victory. "I needed three rounds to clinch after the first two lost in round one and that's all I got."

Not to be outdone, 14-year-old Dylan Stott (right) captured the Torco Race Fuels Carolina Coalition Series in the Masters Division of Junior Dragsters this season. Dylan has already been racing five years, has captured 45 wins, and raced 40 weekends this year.

"Everyone always says that drag racing is a family sport," said Quain. "I look around the pits and see my 'drag racing family' -- my team, my crew and my sponsors. Then I look around and see my family who drag races. I'm real proud of Emily and Dylan. There's a lot to celebrate and a lot to be thankful for."  [12-8-2006]

CARDILLO PASSES AWAY

Former New Jersey Funny Car driver, Benny Cardillo, died Tuesday, Dec. 5. His Funny Cars were called "Special Formula."  Cardillo had successfully completed a heart transplant a couple of years ago, but was in deteriorating health with Lou Gehrig's disease this year which eventually took his life.
