Klugger breaks 3-second barrier at Orlando

Josh Klugger made history as he ran the first official 3-second eighth-mile ET in Pro 275 competition at Orlando Speed World Dragway on Jan. 20. Competing in the World Outlaw Nationals, the Fiscus/Klugger Racing driver drove his turbocharged ’93 Mustang to the record-setting 3.975 at 198.85 mph pass.

The pass qualified Klugger in the No. 1 spot and he went on to the semifinal round, but was unable to continue due to a transmission problem.

The car, with which Klugger won the 2017 NMCA Radial Wars championship and got a win in Pro 275 at No Mercy 8, is for sale. The Fox body with a Racecraft chassis is powered by a Pro Line Racing 481X with twin Garrett turbos.

Andy Robinson will defend his Pro Mod MSA British Drag Racing Championship.

Drag racing sponsorship is a bargain

The Agent notes that IndyCar officials are looking for a replacement for Verizon, which is exiting as title sponsor at the end of this year. Reported price of the series sponsorship for one year? How about $30 million.

At the Finish Line

News has reached the Agent of the deaths of Dee Gantt and Raymond Godman.

Gantt, 72, was a crewman and crew chief most famous for working on Raymond Beadle’s “Blue Max” Funny Car during the championship years.

Godman, 89, died on Jan. 1. Serving in the Marines during the Korean War, his legs were paralyzed by a sniper’s bullet and he received a Purple Heart. That didn’t stop his love of racing however. He was a charter member of the Memphis Rodders Club and the owner of the “Tennessee Bo Weevil” Top Fuel dragster and Funny Car. He raced on the NHRA circuit until 1979 and was inducted in the inaugural class of the International Drag Racing Hall of Fame in 1991.
